يعد هذا العمل نتيجة تعاون مدة خمس سنوات بين فرنسا وليبيا. ويصف الفهرس الذي جهزه عفاف الكاديكي (بنغازي) وسيباستيان غارنييه (باريس) 221 مخطوطة إسلامية محفوظة داخل المكتبة الوطنية الليبية في بنغازي. وقد استفاد الفهرس من مساعدة باحثين آخرين، هما ثيودور بيرز (للمخطوطات الفارسية) وفينسان تيروين (للمخطوطات العثمانية).
تتمتع هذه المجموعة بتاريخٍ فريد، ناتج عن مزيجٍ من عمليات شراء من الخارج واقتناءات محلية. وتجدر الإشارة إلى أن ما لا يقل عن 52% من النصوص لا تزال غير محققة.

The present work is the result of a five-year collaboration between France and Libya. The catalogue elaborated by Afaf Kadiki (Benghazi) and Sébastien Garnier (Paris) describes the 122 Islamic manuscripts kept at the national Library of Libya, in Benghazi. It benefitted from the help of two other scholars, Theodore Beers (for the Persian manuscripts) and Vincent Thérouin (for the Ottoman manuscripts).
This collection has a unique history, resulting from a mix of purchases abroad and local acquisitions. It must also be noted that at least 25 % of the texts remain unedited.
